Vessel Stair Tower Access & Gangway
Tanjong Pagar Terminal,
Singapore
For the launch of Maersk’s new vessel, AP Møller, a tower-gangway hybrid access system was required in Singapore to provide VIP access from the berth to the vessel’s main deck.
With the efficiency, flexibility, and safety of PERI UP, PERI Singapore was confidently entrusted with the project.
One of the key engineering challenges for the project was the 18m-high stair tower, where there was no existing structure nearby to provide bracing or support. To secure the tower safely, guy wires tied to counterweights at the base were implemented.
Another challenge was the gangway bridge connection to the vessel. As the vessel’s position changes with waves and tides, both the distance and height between the vessel and stair tower were constantly shifting. To accommodate these movements, pivots and rollers were incorporated into the gangway bridge design, allowing controlled swiveling and movement compensation.
After rounds of planning and brainstorming, an optimized and safe solution was achieved. A full dry-run and training session was also conducted to familiarize the assembly crew with the design and PERI UP system.
The final installation was completed smoothly and remained in place for just 3 days before being swiftly dismantled after the event.

- RCS Rail Climbing System and GT24 Girders – components for gangway
Naming ceremony for Maersk’s Newest Dual-Fuel Methanol Vessel “A.P. Møller” in Singapore
As there were no existing structures at site to brace and secure the 18 meter-high stair tower, guy wires were tied to counter weights at the base to secure tower
Gangway erected and secured to stair tower to the vessel
18 meters high stair tower in use by event attendees
Gangway Challenge: Vessel is not at a fixed position due waves and tides (distance and height). Solution: Pivots and rollers were utilized to allow swiveling, compensating for distance and height movements.
